This drying equipment and dagga plants were among the goods found and confiscated at a suspected dagga cultivating facility in La Colline.

Three suspected dagga cultivators, two foreign nationals and a South African, were arrested by Stellenbosch police, thanks to a tip-off received from the community.

The arrests were made by officers of Stellenbosch police’s Crime Intelligence Unit, shift officers and the station’s Sector 1 manager Captain Marco Nel on Tuesday 10 May at 14:00. The incident is the second of its kind in Stellenbosch policing precinct in as many weeks, after the arrest of a 40-year-old man in Konde Street, La Colline, on Tuesday 3 May (“Daggaboer vasgetrek”, Eikestadnuus, 5 May).

In the latest incident in the same suburb, the police received information of unknown people cultivating dagga at premises in Mount Albert Road, La Colline, said provincial police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk.

“The officers went to the house in question and searched it,” he said.

“They found and confiscated 31 plastic bags with hydroponic dagga, 284 dagga plants, one round of ammunition, 53 LED lights, eight fans and 9,5 litres of probiotics and microlife.”

The suspects, aged 25, 31 and 33, were charged with cultivating dagga and unlicensed possession of ammunition.

“The suspects were due to appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 12 May,” Van Wyk said.
