Theatrix Singers presents Much Ado About Swing at the Daisy Jones Bar on Summerhill Farm outside Stellenbosch on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September.

The production is based on the Shakespeare comedic play Much Ado About Nothing. It takes all the ups and downs of it.

The music style chosen for this production is swing, through which the story is told following the five acts of the play with linking texts taken from the original play. The music is bespoke arranged for the Theatrix Singers.

The production is set in a typical speakeasy club from the 1920s and ’30s, with the stage set being an art deco bar counter, palm trees and bar tables. A small jazz band (piano, acoustic bass and jazz drums) will accompany.

The costuming is in the style of the ’20s and ’30s, so the audience can expect to see flapper dresses, evening gowns, pinstripe suits, two-tone shoes and Fedora hats.

The duration of the show is about 70 minutes. The original painting from which the show’s poster originated, will be raffled after the last show on Sunday.

Much Ado About Swing will be staged at 20:00 on Saturday and 13:30 and 19:00 on Sunday.

  • Tickets are available through Quicket at R160 and R100 for under 16s. Tickets at the door will cost R170.
