The magic returns to the centre court at Canal Walk this winter school holidays, with a sparkling new take on Aladdin set to bring unforgettable live theatre to Cape Town families.

The show promises all the thrills of the classic, including flying carpets, hidden treasure, a mischievous Genie and a hero who learns what it means to be brave. Based on a timeless tale from The Arabian Nights, this production is set in the bustling streets of old Baghdad.

Aladdin follows a young dreamer whose world turns upside down when he stumbles upon a magical lamp. What unfolds is a story of wit, heart and second chances, wrapped in music and wonder.

Bringing this production to life is a powerhouse creative team from AM Productions, led by Fred Abrahamse and Marcel Meyer, who co-wrote the show’s original book. Meyer also composed the music and lyrics, adding a fresh, theatrical energy to this classic tale.

The title role is played by Anzio September, with Mekaila Mathys as the fearless Princess Jasmin, while Onela Metuso conjures up magic as the Genie of the Lamp.

The ensemble features a dynamic cast who bring flair and humour to every scene, making this production a true blend of stagecraft, storytelling and spectacle.

This year’s production will support The Reach Trust, with a portion of ticket and programme sales going towards early childhood development and digital literacy in underserved Cape Town communities.
