Curtis Gordon receives the award from Anroux Marais, provincial minister of cultural affairs and sport, on behalf of the Forward Foundation.

The provincial Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport held its annual Sports Awards event at the prestigious Cape Sun Hotel on Saturday night (21 October), a time-honoured tradition since 1996.

The event is a celebration of the remarkable achievements of Western Cape sportspeople, recognising their dedication, skill, and contributions to the world of sports. This year, the spotlight shone brightly on the Forward Foundation and Caylix Sport, an organisation dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals through sports and physical education in Stellenbosch and surrounds.

The foundation received the highly esteemed Ministerial Commendation Award, an honour that was not sought after, but one that was bestowed upon them in recognition of their remarkable efforts. The category in which the foundation received this accolade was for the work and effort put in through its sevens rugby, tens rugby, and physical education programme, further cementing their commitment to promoting sports and fitness in the region.

As Forward Foundation founder and visionary, Le Roux Conradie, was travelling abroad at the time of the ceremony, Curtis Gordon, one of the organisation’s dedicated managers, graciously accepted the award on his behalf.

Conradie expressed his profound gratitude for the recognition. “This award is an incredible testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire Forward Foundation team. It is a true honour to have our efforts acknowledged on such a prestigious platform.”

The Ministerial Commendation Award serves as a reminder that the Forward Foundation’s mission is resonating with the community and the broader Western Cape. The organisation’s commitment to promoting physical education, sevens, and tens rugby has made a tangible impact, fostering a more active and healthier province.

In the spirit of unity, Conradie went on to highlight the collective efforts of those who have made the Forward Foundation’s work possible.

“We share this award with all the athletes, teahers, and supporters who have rallied behind our cause. Together, we will continue to inspire our community to reach new heights by moving the province forward, faster,” Conradie related.

The Forward Foundation’s recognition at the pronvincial awards is not only a momentous occasion for the organisation but also a testament to the enduring power of sports and physical education in transforming lives.
