AWSS named best shelter

The tireless work of the staff and volunteers of the Animal Welfare Society Stellenbosch (AWSS) has been recognised globally, with the local organisation named the Best Animal Non-Profit Shelter at the MEA Markets African Excellence Awards for 2023.

The awards are an essential guide to the key sectors driving growth throughout the continent. It rewards outstanding companies and individuals whose entrepreneurship have strengthened Africa’s position as the next global economic powerhouse. The winners are determined through an innovative selection process based on merit, and the strict criteria ensures that only the most deserving go on to be successful in the programme.

Said AWSS general manager Jessica Perrins: “[I am] humbled and honoured to accept this coveted international award on behalf of the executive committee of AWSS, my outstanding team and those who selflessly contribute to their cause and share our vision, enabling us to better the lives of all animals within our area of operation. She said recognising animals as sentient beings with the right to a good quality of life, devoid of pain and suffering lies at the heart of the organisation’s work. “I am so pleased that after 65 years of transforming and positively impacting countless pets and their owners lives, our efforts have finally been recognised and rewarded in such a magnificent way on the world stage,” Perrins added.
