With the relaxation of some of lockdown regulations, the demand for services offered by the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) is far greater than its small team can manage alone.

Volunteers have always been the backbone and lifeblood of the organisation, carrying out invaluable work in all aspects of the programme. However, many have fallen away due to the long period of lockdown restrictions.

Cansa is now rebuilding its volunteer programme and needs volunteers who can assist with raising awareness about cancer, especially the causes and symptoms of the illness, and visiting and supporting patients, often in their homes.

Cansa will provide training and support for those who are keen to get involved with the worthy cause.

The three main requirements for potential volunteers are that they must:

. be over 16 years of age;

. be able to get themselves around as necessary, either by using their own transport or public transport; and

. be available to volunteer during the week.

Cansa is currently focusing on building volunteer teams in Stellenbosch, so those who are interested are encouraged to visit the Cansa website and complete the online application form at https://cansa.org.za/new-volunteer-applications/.
