Cloetesville police have asked residents to be careful and vigilant in crime hotspot areas.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Zenobia Sedeman one such area is where residents walk to the R44 towards the traffic intersection at Bird Street, which forms part of the main road leading to town. “Also, the R304 road on the open fields towards town and both sides of the road leading towards Mt Simon Estate, the bridge in Bird Street as well as Lang Street at the shopping centre,” she pointed out.“Here many seniors receive their Sassa cash-out and shop at Shoprite U-Save. Residents are urged to be alert and to never walk alone.”
Hotspot areas in Idas Valley include Rustenberg, Botmanskop and Helshoogte streets, including Old Helshoogte Road, which is often used by students. “Avoid having visible valued items that perpetrators are keen to take and or grab,” Sedeman added.
“Residents are also asked to report domestic disputes, as even serious assaults are often not reported, especially those that occur behind closed doors.”
She further asked residents to avoid being outside from 21:00 to 00:00 weekdays, while commuters making their way to and from home or work should be cautious. “Residents of Cloetesville and Idas Valley must ensure that when information is shared on social media, the details of any person who has not been charged for any crime is not publicised.”
