The South African Bone Marrow Registry will host a two-day bone marrow stem cell registration drive at Stellenbosch University’s Maties Gym this weekend (Friday 16 and Saturday 17 September).

The drive is being held in celebration of World Marrow Donor Day, which is celebrated annually on the third Saturday in September to thank stem cell donors worldwide for their selflessness, including donors on the global registry waiting to donate.

The aim is to raise awareness of the lack of stem-cell donors worldwide and the impact a transplant can have on a patient’s life.

Several exhibiters will also be present on the day, including the South African Blood Service, the Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa (Choc), the South African Tissue Bank Association and the Western Cape Blood Service.

. The registration drive will take place between 09:00 and 17:00 on both days at the Coetzenberg Centre in Suidwal Street. Ample parking is available.
