Franschhoek police members face a challenge of identifying a “well-known Xhosa man” whose body was discovered by Villiersdorp police officials on Franschhoek Pass.
According to spokesperson Sgt Marize Mentoor, police officers found the body on a routine patrol near the Mont Rochelle trail on Sunday morning.
“It is alleged the man was well-known in the community of Villiersdorp, but that community members cannot recall his name or have connections with the deceased’s family members.“We are waiting for information from the mortuary services to provide more detail to the public in an attempt to trace his family and inform them of his death.”
She added no foul play is suspected and that officials had found a cellphone believed to be that of the deceased.
“Unfortunately the phone did not yield more about his identification,” Mentoor said.
