With a 100% pass rate for the 21st consecutive year, Bridge House School, Franschhoek maintains a long-standing tradition.
The prominent Boland private school, which writes the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) National Senior Certificate exams, not only achieved a 100% pass rate, but 52 of the 53 matrics achieved Bachelor degree passes.
Their top students are Emma Fourie and Nathan Willard.
Emma, with the top average, achieved six distinctions, with two subjects in the top 1% nationally — English (91%) and Visual Arts (95%).
She was Head Girl in 2017 and Chair of the Interact Board, and played first team hockey and indoor hockey.
At the Bridge House Awards Ceremony, Emma received the Lew Geffen–Southebys Art Trophy, the International Round Square Organisation King Constantine Medal and the Bridge House Founders’ Shield. The last is awarded to the student who personifies the qualities of initiative, independence of spirit and self-motivation, coupled with humanity and selflessness.
Moreover, Emma fulfilled the challenging requirements for The President’s Award, and to reach the Gold Standard. The Gold Standard is the highest level of The President’s Award (Duke of Edinburgh International Award for Young People).
It requires commitment, perseverance and dedication to complete a project or task, and participants are voluntarily involved in various activities over a minimum period of 12 months.
A Gold award holder reflects a well-rounded individual who is equipped with skills, physically active, socially responsible and has a spirit of adventure and determination to overcome challenges. Bridge House is proud to have such an all-rounder also as their Dux Student of 2017.
Fellow star achiever Nathan studied eight subjects, including Advanced Programme Mathematics, and achieved eight distinctions — his mark for Mathematics being 97%, in the top 1% nationally.
Nathan was a member of the Bridge House Student Leadership Council Executive and he served on the Board of Interact.
He achieved the Silver President’s Award level.
At the Bridge House Awards Ceremony he received a Staff Special Award for being a model Bridge House pupil.
