Matrics of Bridge House School in Franschhoek achieved a 100% pass rate for the 22nd consecutive year.

In total in 2018, 11 514 full-time candidates wrote the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) National Senior Certificate exams, achieving a 98,92% pass rate, with 90,65% students achieving Bachelor’s degree passes. In all, 96% of Bridge House students achieved Bachelor’s degree passes.

The student with the top average at Bridge House, Christa-Mari de Lange, achieved a place on the IEB’s Commendable Achievements list, with five subjects in the top 5% nationally.

She achieved eight distinctions and four of her results are in the top 1% of IEB results. She received 90% and over for accounting, Afrikaans, economics, mathematics, advanced programme mathematics and physical science.

Apart from being exceptionally diligent academically, Christa-Mari played tennis and hockey for the school. In 2018, she completed the challenging requirements of The President’s Award to reach the Gold Standard. The Gold Standard is the highest level of The President’s Award (Duke of Edinburgh International Award for Young People). It requires commitment, perseverance and dedication to complete, and participants are voluntarily involved in various activities over a minimum period of 12 months.

A Gold Award Holder reflects a well-rounded individual who is equipped with skills, is physically active, socially responsible and with a spirit of adventure and the determination to overcome challenges.

Anaïs Masson wrote nine subjects, including advanced programme mathematics and advanced programme English, achieving eight distinctions with her mark for English in the top 1% of IEB results nationally. She was the school’s head girl, chairperson of Interact and, at the 2018 awards ceremony, was awarded two of the top awards, the Fellowship Award and the Founders’ Shield.

The Founders’ Shield is awarded to the Grade 12 pupil who personifies the qualities of initiative, independence of spirit and self-motivation, coupled with the qualities of humanity and selflessness. Anaïs also achieved full colours for music and was a member of the first netball team. Together with students from the schools in the Franschhoek valley, Anaïs was actively involved in the Bhabhathane programme’s Franschhoek Student Leaders Forum.
