Nine learners attending the Imbali Visual Literacy Programme in Kylemore, recently started an exciting journey at the PJ Oliver Art Centre.
The visual literacy project addresses the need to provide a structured and meaningful programme that enhances the visual literacy education of the children of Kylemore and surrounding towns.
These learners, who have been attending art classes at the Children’s Art Centre in Kylemore on a voluntary basis, now have the opportunity to do a course in general art where they are exposed to all the practical disciplines.
“They will be able to choose one of the visual art disciplines to specialise in such as drawing, printing, photography, painting, sculpture or ceramics, be able to gain in self-expression and engage meaningfully and respond to their world,” says Jeanne Bestbier, one of the founder members of Imbali Western Cape.
This opportunity was made possible by the involvement of the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) in their recognition of the project with their grant of R450 000 to this project.
These learners of PC Petersen Primary and Kylemore High School, visited the centre for the first time on Friday 28 July.
