The skies will again be adorned with a wide array of colourful kites when Cape Mental Health hosts the 28th annual Cape Town Kite Festival throughout October.

The organisation’s flagship event will again raise funds to enable it to continue providing essential free mental health-care services and interventions to those most in need. Said Dr Ingrid Daniels, CEO of Cape Mental Health and immediate past president of the World Federation for Mental Health: “Failure to ensure every child and adolescent has access to emotional support and mental health services will be a failure of our society in preventing this generation from being resilient adults with good mental health.”

The theme for this year’s festival is #FlyYourDreams, with the organisation urging youths to fly a kite in support of mental health awareness.

The Cape Town Kite Festival Pop-up Fly takes place at Melkbosstrand Beach on Cape Town’s Atlantic seaboard from 10:00 to 15:00 this Sunday (9 October), in support of World Mental Health Day the following day (Monday 10 October). Apart from the kite flying, there will also be real-life and online activities such as community flies, the EduKite competition for learners from mainstream primary and special schools, interviews, activities for the little ones, an online store and more on the website of Cape Mental Health.

You can also join kiters all over the globe and fly your kite, anywhere and anytime during October. Participants are urged to share photos, videos and messages of encouragement, using the hashtag #FlyYourDreams and tagging on @CTKiteFest to feature on the festival’s social feeds.
