The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) and Metrorail Western Cape has announced its festive season train service, designed to cater for the leisure needs of commuters during the holiday period.

In addition to the normal weekday service, the region’s trains will operate on public holidays and Sundays, until Sunday 5 January 2025.

Normal services will resume on the Monday 6 January 2025.

This special arrangement has been put in place to accommodate commuters’ requests for additional trains for those travelling to popular beach destinations and other places of leisure.

Metrorail will operate on the following public holidays and Sundays (a time-table will follow, but you can visit your nearest train station ticket office for more information):. Thursday 26 December 2024;. Sunday 29 December 2024;. Saturday 28 December 2024; the service will be extended to 18:30. Wednesday 1 January 2025;. Saturday 4 January 2025; the service will be extended to 18:30. Sunday 5 January 2025

Customers are also advised to arrive early at stations to secure parking and seating. There will be security on board our trains and stations; the safety and security of our customers are a priority.

Acting regional manager Raymond Maseko said that the region is excited to offer a convenient and safe travel experience for our commuters during the festive season. He added that he encourages everyone to plan ahead, check our service schedules, and enjoy the holiday period.
