Gilah Kellner, a violinist and concertmaster of the Africa United Youth Orchestra (AUYO) will be the guest artist at the gala concert of the 2024 National Youth Music Competition (NYMC) at the Endler Hall on Saturday (7 December).

The AUYO performed at Carnegie Hall, New York as part of the World Orchestra Week Festival in August.

In 2017 a 14-year-old Kellner took the laurels as overall winner and gold medallist at the NYMC. She is now a second-year Stellenbosch University BMus student under Dr Suzanne Martens.

The gala concert is the only South African music competition where the six finalists perform with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) in the final battle with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.

Maestro Brandon Phillips will be on the podium.

The six finalists will perform their respective concerti with the CPO at the concert, which will concludewith Kellner playing the much-loved second movement of the “Beethoven Violin Concerto”.

The competition will be adjudicated by a panel of seven esteemed musicians.
