At the arrival of the new branded minibus of the CWDM MHS (from left) are Theresa Davids (chief environmental-health practitioner), Councillor Xoliswa Mdemka (MHS portfolio holder), Rhian van Wyk (acting executive director of Corporate Services), Fiona du Raan-Groenewald (chief financial officer), Alderman Dr Elna von Schlicht (executive mayor), Francois van Eck (executive director of Technical Services), Tersia Booys (environmental-health practitioner) and Randall Humphreys (deputy director of MHS).

The Municipal Health Services (MHS) of the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) has a new set of branded wheels!

The branded minibus will be used for school and community engagements by MHS environmental-health practitioners. They are responsible for nine functions ensuring the safety of the environments where residents live, play and work.

They achieve this through education and awareness programmes presented at schools, farms, factories and other manufacturing plants within the municipal district.

To enhance understanding in the district of the important role MHS plays in society and to support existing programmes, the team has designed easy-to-understand images that describe their functions.

The National Health Act, 2003 (Act 61 of 2003), defines MHS to include water-quality monitoring, food control, waste management, health surveillance of premises, surveillance and prevention of communicable diseases, excluding immunisation, vector control, environmental pollution control, disposal of human remains and chemical safety.

Colourful images depicting these nine functions now feature on the MHS minibus of CWDM.
