The Cape Chamber Music Collective (CCMC) has assembled a star-studded ensemble to premiere another new South African composition at five concerts in Cape Town and the Boland. The ensemble features (from left) Cameron Williams (clarinet), Lynelle Kenned (soprano), Joshua Frank (oboe), Brandon Phillips (bassoon), Shannon Thebus (French horn) and Liesl Stolz (flute). The Stellenbosch concert forms part of the popular Endler Concert Series at the Endler Hall tomorrow (Friday 11 February) at 19:00. The CCMC commissioned South African composer and foremost jazz musician Paul Hanmer to compose a new work specifically for the ensemble. The piece is a set of miniatures based on SA folk tunes and poetry. It is a colourful addition to the balmy selection of music for the series. Entitled Summer Nights, the concert programme includes “Summer Music for Wind Quintet” by American composer, Samuel Barber, the new Hanmer work and “Les Nuits d’Été” by Hector Berlioz. Tickets range from R120 to R150. Tickets can be booked online at Quicket via the CCMC website at www.capechambercollective.com.
