The Stellenbosch Academy of Sport served as the venue for a sports-and-recreation coaches’ training session hosted by e’Bosch Heritage Project on Saturday (10 May).
The session, which focused on the fundamental role of play and recreation in the development of children, formed part of e’Bosch’s ongoing community development initiatives, bringing coaches and facilitators from Stellenbosch and the surrounding farming communities together. It highlighted the importance of inclusive and creative approaches to sport.
The training aimed to equip participants with the skills needed to foster innovation and leadership among local youth. Participants were encouraged to view sport not solely as competition, but as a means to encourage joy, teamwork and social development. It further emphasised that structured recreational activities can play a significant role in promoting well-being and personal growth in children.
As the next step in their training participants will proceed to level 2 of the course, which requires them to apply the knowledge gained by designing and teaching an original game to children within their communities.
The practical component aims to reinforce the principles of inclusive coaching and creative engagement.
The session concluded with a powerful message that captured the essence of the day’s training: “Let kids be kids, and let them play”.
