Stellenbosch: In celebration of Women’s Month (August) and Heritage Month (September), the Stellenbosch Museum has a temporary exhibition of wedding dresses which can be viewed at Grosvenor House, the third house in the Village Museum complex, until the end of September. Each wedding dress on display conveys a unique story of love, tradition and cultural legacy, giving visitors an insight into the diverse historical aspects of weddings in South Africa. The collection showcases a variety of stylistic elements and designs that reflect changing styles and influences throughout different periods. Stellenbosch: The annual general meeting of Meals on Wheels Community Services Western Cape will be held at the Technopark Protea Hotel from 10:30 to 12:30. Stellenbosch: Die Endler-konsertreeks bied om 19:00 die Universiteit Stellenbosch Simfonieorkes (USSO), onder leiding van Leon Bosch, by die Endler-saal aan. Hierdie spesiale geleentheid is die tweede simfoniekonsert van 2024 deur die USSO, onder die bekwame leiding van maestro Bosch. Hy is met ’n loopbaan wat oor drie dekades strek, nie net bekend vir sy virtuose-kontrabas-uitvoerings nie, maar ook vir sy merkwaardige invloed as dirigent en opvoeder in die wêreldwye musiekgemeenskap. Die aand se program beloof om gehore te boei met uitgesoekte werke wat die briljantheid van die orkes sowel as die interpretatiewe diepte van die dirigent ten toon stel. Die konsert sal begin met die energieke en sprankelende ouverture uit Mikhail Glinka se “Ruslan en Ludmilla”, ’n stuk wat bekend is vir sy skitterende orkesvirtuositeit. Hierna sal die gehoor getrakteer word op Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart se “Sinfonia Concertante” vir viool en altviool, aangebied in ’n spesiale verwerking vir viool en tjello deur Peter Martens. Stellenbosch: Die gewilde musikant Jannie du Toit en ’n groep van sy musikale vriende bied om 20:15 ’n spesiale geldinsamelingskonsert ten bate van die Nasionale Raad van en vir Mense met Gestremdhede (NCPD) by die Drostdy-teater aan. Benewens treffers uit Du Toit se eie repertoire, sal musiekkunstenaars by hom aansluit om die gehoor te vermaak met sang, harmonie en besonderse klavier-, fluit- en kitaarspel. SATURDAY 14 AND SUNDAY 15 SEPTEMBER

Stellenbosch: Theatrix Singers presents Much Ado About Swing at the Daisy Jones Bar on Summerhill Farm. The production is based on the Shakespeare comedic play Much Ado About Nothing. The music style chosen for this production is swing, through which the story is told following the five acts of the play with linking texts taken from the original play. The music is bespoke arranged for the Theatrix Singers. The production is set in a typical speakeasy club from the 1920s and ’30s, with the stage set being an art deco bar counter, palm trees and bar tables. A small jazz band (piano, acoustic bass and jazz drums) will accompany. The duration of the show is about 70 minutes. The original painting from which the show’s poster originated, will be raffled after the last show on Sunday. It will be staged at 20:00 on Saturday and 13:30 and 19:00 on Sunday. Tickets are available through Quicket at R160 and R100 for under 16s. Tickets at the door will cost R170.

MONDAY 16 SEPTEMBER

Stellenbosch: The Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition will be held at the Endler Hall, starting with the opening ceremony at 18:30. The ceremony will feature a performance by the competition’s 2023 winner, Xizhi Aiden Luo with the Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra. The final round of the competition will comprise a concert featuring all the finalists on Friday 20 September at 18:00 for 18:30. It will be live-streamed via the competition’s YouTube channel, or music lovers can attend in person by purchasing tickets, at R80 each, online through Webtickets. Stellenbosch: The Mudita Foundation hosts its Serenity Fun Run at the Blaauwklippen Wine Estate. Participants can choose between a 6 km or 10 km run, both starting at 08:00. Late registration is available from 06:30, with fees set at R75 for adults and R55 for children under 14 for the 6 km run, and R95 for adults and R75 for children under 14 for the 10 km run. The first 100 finishers will receive medals, and prizes will be awarded to the winners of each run. Additionally, spot prizes will be up for grabs.
