• Somerset West: The Stellenbosch Youth Orchestra (SYO) presents an afternoon of music at St Matthew’s Chapel at SOMERSET COLLEGE at 14:00. The concert is a fundraiser for the SYO’s first-ever tour to George. This spirit of the concert is captured in the SYO’s motto, “The Sound of Tomorrow”. Tickets cost R150 through Webtickets. •Stellenbosch: The STELLENBOSCH INTEREST GROUP (SIG) is holding its annual general meeting on the ground floor of the Chamber of Mines (Geology) Building of Stellenbosch University at 18:30. Access via the eastern entrance. Guest speaker Dr Brian du Preez will present a talk titled “Bridging the divide between science and society – A botanical perspective”. Du Preez recently discovered a previously unknown indigenous plant species from the Moraea genus on the slopes of Botmaskop, about 50 m from the boundary of the proposed Botmaskop luxury housing estate. The development has been halted by an interdict brought in the Western Cape High Court by the SIG. The meeting is open to all members of the public.
