Stellenbosch: Theatrix Singers presents Much Ado About Swing at the Daisy Jones Bar on Summerhill Farm. The production is based on the Shakespeare comedic play Much Ado About Nothing. The music style chosen for this production is swing, through which the story is told following the five acts of the play with linking texts taken from the original play. The music is bespoke arranged for the Theatrix Singers. The production is set in a typical speakeasy club from the 1920s and ’30s, with the stage set being an art deco bar counter, palm trees and bar tables. A small jazz band (piano, acoustic bass and jazz drums) will accompany. The duration of the show is about 70 minutes. The original painting from which the show’s poster will be raffled after the last show on Sunday 15 September. It will be staged at 20:00 on Saturday and 13:30 and 19:00 on Sunday. Tickets are available through Quicket at R160 and R100 for under 16s. Tickets at the door will cost R170.

Stellenbosch: The Hubert van der Spuy National Music Competition will be held at the Endler Hall, starting with the opening ceremony at 18:30. The ceremony will feature a performance by the competition’s 2023 winner, Xizhi Aiden Luo with the Stellenbosch Symphony Orchestra. The final round of the competition will comprise a concert featuring all the finalists on Friday 20 September at 18:00 for 18:30. It will be live-streamed via the competition’s YouTube channel, or music lovers can attend in person by purchasing tickets, at R80 each, online through Webtickets. Stellenbosch: The Mudita Foundation hosts its Serenity Fun Run at the Blaauwklippen Wine Estate. Participants can choose between a 6 km or 10 km run, both starting at 08:00. Late registration is available from 06:30, with fees set at R75 for adults and R55 for children under 14 for the 6 km run, and R95 for adults and R75 for under 14s for the 10 km run. The first 100 finishers will receive medals, and prizes will be awarded to the winners of each run. Additionally, spot prizes will be up for grabs.
