The grand UDUMO Western Cape choral event is set to take place at Coetzenburg Centre in Stellenbosch at 18:00 on Sunday 22 October.
It promises to be a celebration of choral music deeply rooted in South African culture and heritage, bringing four incredible mass choirs together, each consisting of more than 200 singers, comprising a primary-school choir, two high-school choirs, and an adult choir, all performing under the guidance of world-class expert conductors.
The highlight will be the breathtaking assembly of a 1 000-singer combined mass choir, delivering carefully selected pieces to showcase the rich diversity of our nation and honour the essence of choral music in the South African DNA.
UDUMO Western Cape will feature an outstanding line-up of choirs, each bringing their unique musicality and energy to the stage. Participating choirs include Blouberg International School senior choir, Cape Choral Academy, Laerskool Courtrai senior choir, Curro Century City senior choir, Laerskool Fanie Theron, Rallim Pre-Prep secondary choir, Brackenfell High School choir, Eerste River South Youth Choir, Harry Gwala High School choir, Tygerberg High School boys’ and girls’ choir, Zolani Youth Choir, Hoërskool Durbanville-koor, Makupula High School choir, Rustenburg, Girls’ High School choir, Amici de Lumine Choir, Harmonius Chorale, Joyful Harmonies, Vivox Voices and The Winelands Chamber Choir.
The primary-school mass choir will be conducted by the renowned Michaelangelo Cloete, while the two high-school mass choirs will be led by the exceptional Linda Claassen and Jan Megan Thorne. The adult mass choir will be expertly guided by Monde Mdingi. Also, a combined mass choir will be led by the talented Xander Kritzinger and Maria Rademan Viviers. The event’s pinnacle will be the awe-inspiring 1 000-singer choir singing the UDUMO anthem directed by CCNF artistic programme director of group projects Bernard Krüger.
UDUMO Western Cape marked the third and final in the series of UDUMO events held countrywide this year. The previous events, in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, received much acclaim, with audiences passionately engaging with the music and the unifying power of choral harmony.
