On Tuesday 18 July the spirit of Madiba came alive at SU LaunchLab, which joined forces with Stellenbosch Network and The Loudhailer to host an extraordinary event entitled “67 Minutes of Empowering for Change.” With a shared passion for start-ups and innovation, these formidable partners united to support local small businesses in the Stellenbosch community.

The energy was palpable as 17 dynamic start-ups proudly showcased their ventures, surrounded by an enthusiastic crowd of like-minded individuals, all deeply entrenched in the local start-up ecosystem. From the moment the doors opened a steady throng of guests streamed in, eager to connect, collaborate and uplift these aspiring entrepreneurs.

In the true spirit of giving back on Mandela Day the evening took a thrilling turn when the start-ups took centre stage for a lively 67-second pitch competition. The atmosphere crackled with excitement as each entrepreneur poured their heart and soul into their pitch, igniting inspiration and admiration among the attendees.

As the clock ticked on the votes were cast, and the standout entrepreneur emerged; Vusi Mokoena of Mavusana Premium Rooibos Tea, a deserving winner celebrated for his ingenuity and passion.

With hearts full of hope and in an atmosphere of unity, the “67 Minutes” left an indelible mark on the Stellenbosch start-up community. It served as a testament to the power of collaboration, compassion and the unwavering belief in the potential of local businesses to transform lives.

Together, these incredible organisations proved change and empowerment go hand-in-hand, and as Mandela’s legacy is honoured, ordinary people become catalysts of positive transformation in the nation.
