Two chess players from the Calling Academy walked away with awards after the PRG Blitz Open Chess Tournament held at Paul Roos Gymnasium on 23 February. Despite being only 13 years old, Basheer Abrahams (right) won five out of nine games in the open section against tough competition. This earned him the award for most promising player at the tournament. Lionel Carstens (left) received the award for the player showing the best sportsmanship. Calling Academy is also the high school in the entire Cape Winelands District with the most u-15 boys selected for the second round of trials for Boland chess.
