With tickets for the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s (CPO) annual tribute concert to the late philanthropist Huberte Rupert at the Endler Hall on Friday 29 November sold out, the orchestra has opened the dress rehearsal at 16:00 to the public to allow more to experience Beethoven’s Fifth.
Bernhard Gueller, the CPO’s principal guest conductor, will be on the podium to conduct the overture to “Fidelio” and “Symphony No 5” in C minor. The orchestra and Gueller will accompany the brilliant young pianist Qden Blaauw in the magnificent “Emperor Concerto”.
Blaauw is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London, having just entered his second year with acclaimed Russian pianist and teacher Rustem Hayroudinoff.
He was one of two international undergraduate students who received a full tuition scholarship from the institution, building on the reputation he garnered in South Africa with all the prizes he won.
Most recently, Blaauw resumed composing when Berlin-based artist Robin Rhode commissioned him to create a series of tracks for the animations in his new exhibition Joburg Hymn. The exhibition celebrates Johannesburg while also highlighting areas in decay. Similar collaborative events are planned for Berlin and New York next year.
- Unreserved tickets for the dress rehearsal of Beethoven’s Fifth cost R75 each and can be booked through Webtickets and Artscape Dial-A-Seat on 021 421 7695. The doors open at 15:45.
