Fairtree Imperial Cannondale (FIC) cyclists put on a phenomenal performance on one of the Cape Town’s finest routes, with Luyanda Tobigunya and Kusaselihle Ngidi both finishing with a time of 03:12:00 at the Cape Town Cycle Tour at the weekend. Bradley Oliphant and Chris Norton were hot on their heels with times of 03:17:00, followed by Siyabulela Tutu at 03:19:00.

Thembela Lukalo clocked in at 03:39:00, with Ann Swanpoel and Yomelela Mfazwa finishing at 04:44:00 and 05:11:00, respectively. Thando Nthuthu and Unathi Msopi put in strong performances at 04:24:00 and 06:02:00.

All the team members rode on mountain bikes, which made their times even more impressive. The ride was the final preparation before the team takes on the Absa Cape Epic, giving the riders a chance to push themselves in a high-cadence race with no technical terrain.

“The team rode for the Move4Food initiative, a charity organized by Stellenbosch University to raise money for students who cannot afford food due to lack of funds,” says Chris Norton from FIC. “The cause added motivation for the team to push themselves and achieve great results.”

He added that this was a great opportunity for the team to ride for a worthy cause and raise funds and food for needy students. “The riders are now fit and strong, ready to take on the challenge of the upcoming Cape Epic. A big thanks to Stellenbosch University for sponsoring the entries for the team.”
