The Fairtree DP World Cannondale racing team completed their first race since the gruelling Cape Epic at the weekend and the results are impressive. Luyanda Tobigunya finished fifth in the Lourensford Classic with an impressive time of 2:27:04, while Kusaselihle Ngidi came in ninth with a time of 2:31:49. Ongeziwe Tyapa also had a great race finishing 19th with a time of 2:41:34.
Sitembiso Masango finished in 30th place with a time of 2:45:00, while Atlahang Motsokotsi came in 33rd with a time of 2:48:24. Thembela Lukalo and Yomelela Mfazwe also completed the race, finishing in 54th and 25th places respectively. However, Alakhe Tshemese did not finish the race.
“It is exciting to see the team’s progress and improvement, with some exciting new youngsters joining the team. The ladies were on leave, but Yomelela still participated in the 40 km route and finished 25th,” team manager, Chris Norton, said.
The team’s next race is Sani2c, and with the great results from this race, they are hopeful for a top 5 finish. Last year, Luyanda and Lihle finished in 8th place, and with the team’s constant signs of improvement, a top 5 placing is within reach.
“The team would like to extend their thanks to Johan Kriegler for a fantastic event and their amazing sponsors for their support in ensuring they can participate in these events. It is great to see the team’s growth and success, and we wish them all the best for their upcoming races.”
