Another unforgettable “Rugby That Rocks” season beckons, as the FNB Varsity Cup and FNB Varsity Shield tournaments return next month to showcase student-rugby talent.

The Varsity Shield starts on Friday 13 February and Varsity Cup on Monday 16 February, the clearest pathways in SA rugby, 61 former players having gone on to Springbok glory. These remain platforms for assessing new blood.

FNB Varsity Cup CEO Francois Pienaar says this is “about opportunity and giving young players the platform to test themselves… from student rugby to the highest level of the game”.

The 2026 season opens with FNB UCT as title holders and FNB Varsity College competing under the new Emeris brand name. FNB Maties meet FNB UFS Shimlas on 16 February at 16:45.
