Ikaya Primary School, one of the oldest educational institutions in Khayamandi, held its annual valedictory ceremony for its Grade 7 learners last Thursday (16 November).
Through a commitment to quality education and academic excellence, the school has successfully produced numerous graduates who continue to contribute significantly to positive social change.
The valedictory ceremony was held to recognise learners for their outstanding performance, as a form of reward, and as a way of preparing them for what’s to come, the start of high school.
Guest speaker Nokuphiwa Katom, a community development worker and founder of the student support Think Ahead Transformation Academy in Stellenbosch, delivered an inspiring message at the event.
“Your labour was not in vain,” was her message to the learners. “Teaching is not merely a career but a calling.
“Today’s event marks a pivotal transition to high school. Do not forget the values instilled in you at home and school. Choose your friends wisely. Discover who you are, what you are, and what you love.”
In collaboration with an emerging entrepreneur, Katom, generously donated more than 130 copies of a book aimed at equipping learners for their high-school journey.
This valuable contribution reinforces the school’s commitment to providing holistic support to its students and underscores the importance of partnerships in fostering educational growth and success.
