Voters in Stellenbosch’s Ward 8 are gearing-up for the upcoming by-election, which takes place on Wednesday 23 October.
The by-election in this ward, which includes Stellenbosch University campus and residences, Coetzenburg and parts of Koloniesland, is one of three taking place in the province on the day.
The three candidates contesting for the ward are Jacobus André Davids of the African National Congress (ANC); the Democratic Alliance’s Tamryn Olivia Kumm as well as Zwelithini Gwele, who represents the Truth And Solidarity Movement (TRUTH).
Voters who applied and have been approved for special voting will be eligible to cast their votes at the Matie Sport Cricket House on Tuesday 22 October between 08:00 and 17:00. Home voters, due to health reasons, will be visited by the IEC at any time on the same day, also between 08:00 and 17:00.
On voting day, Wednesday 23 October, the local voting station will open at 07:00 and close at 21:00. Voters must produce either a green barcoded ID book, a Smartcard ID or a valid Temporary Identity Certificate to be allowed to vote.
