As the Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) gears-up for the added pressure on the blood supply over the festive season, it encourages the public to give the ultimate gift during its “big bleed” on Red Saturday (25 November).
“By donating one unit of blood you get to save up to three lives,” said WCBS PR manager Marike Carli.
Red Saturday focuses on consumers in malls all looking for the ultimate special on Black Friday. The WCBS will be at 10 participating malls, in the hopes of collecting 1 000 units of blood and welcoming 300 new donors in just one day.
Join WCBS from 09:00 to 16:00 at Blue Route Mall in Tokai, Kenilworth Centre, Bayside Mall in Table View, N1 City Mall in Goodwood, Tyger Valley Shopping Centre in Bellville, Cape Gate Shopping Centre in Brackenfell, Liberty Promenade in Mitchells Plain, Somerset Mall in Somerset West, Whale Coast Mall in Hermanus or Langeberg Mall in Mossel Bay.
“We are appealing to the public to join us on Red Saturday,” Carli added. “There is no better special than being able to give one donation and to save three lives.”
If you are between 16 and 75, weigh 50 kg or more, are in good general health, and lead a safe sexual lifestyle, you should be able to donate.
