In celebration of this historic British day some South Africans still set fireworks off, but Stellenbosch Municipality warns that no public locations have been authorised for the setting off of fireworks.

The municipality may designate certain public areas as authorised locations for discharging fireworks. However, no such locations have been approved, meaning that setting off fireworks is currently illegal throughout the municipal area.

Please remember:. Only individuals with a valid fireworks license under the Explosives Act, along with written permissions from the South African Police Services and the Chief Fire Officer, may legally deal in fireworks.. Fireworks, crackers, and Chinese lanterns can cause extensive wildfires, endangering property and lives.. No person may light, ignite, or detonate fireworks in any place where animals are present.. Individuals under the age of 16 may not purchase or possess fireworks.. Anyone wishing to host a fireworks display must obtain written authorisation from the Chief Fire Officer.. Violating the Fire Services Bylaw of 2013 will result in fines and may lead to additional legal action. Your cooperation helps protect our community and natural surroundings.
