Gymnasts on the podium

The Olympic Games were not the only place were gymnasts recently shone as locally, the senior (Level 4 and up) artistic and rhythmic gymnastics Cape Winelands district trials recently took place.


The Olympic Games were not the only place were gymnasts recently shone as locally, the senior (Level 4 and up) artistic and rhythmic gymnastics Cape Winelands district trials recently took place.

A group of 10 gymnasts from Van Der Stel Gymnastics Club participated in the two disciplines and took five all around first places, three second places and two thirds. They also won 34 apparatus medals.

They will represent the Cape Winelands at the Western Cape championships, which take place from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 August (rhythmic) and Friday 16 to Saturday 18 August (artistic).

Analo Jack (Level 4, 13 years, second all around), Amahle Mbalo (Level 4, 14 years+, first all around), Salizwa Milanjana (Level 4, 13 years, first all around) and Alana Theron (Level 10, 15 years+, first all around).

The artistic gymnastics were Catherine Malherbe (Level 4 10 years, 2nd all around), Cate Venter (Level 5 13 years, 3rd all around) and Anina Rademeyer (Level 5 11 years, 1st all around) and in bottom row, Bianca Lochner (Level 7, 14 years+, 1st all around), Hannah Grace Albertyn (Level 7, 14 years+, 2nd all around) and Salomie Rademeyer (Level 8, 14 years+, 3rd all around).
