Hailey Troup, a Grade 12 learner at Rhenish Girls’ High School, recently signed a full scholarship with Samford University in Alabama, USA.

She will be part of the university’s Division 1 Programme, the highest level of competition in the university (college) sector, which allows Troup to compete against the best players from the best sports programmes in that country.

Troup has been the school’s number-1 player and an integral part of the team. Her experience and leadership assisted the team in doing well in many tournaments this year, most notably claiming second place in the National All Girls’ Tournament hosted by Eunice High School for Girls and second place at the Amanda Coetzer Tournament hosted by C&N Sekondêre Meisieskool Oranje.

“I knew when I started coaching Hailey that a goal could be to get a scholarship at Samford.,” said Sunel Malan, Rhenish’s head of tennis and first-team tennis coach “My connection with this university goes a long way, as Hailey would be my third player to play in this great Division 1 programme. I am excited to give Hailey over to my good friend, head coach at Samford.”

The Rhenish school community is excited about this great opportunity and wishes Hailey well with this new and exciting chapter in her life.
