Kayamandi Primary School, renowned for its exceptional choir and talented traditional dancers, has been given a golden opportunity to represent the Western Cape at the upcoming national choral championship in Johannesburg. But this memorable experience is possible only through support from the community.

Due to Covid-19, Kayamandi Primary was unable to participate in any choral competitions for more than a year. After establishing their competition readiness, its choir decided to enter this year’s competition, owing to the remarkable achievements of their choristers and dancers.

In preliminaries the traditional dancers secured a commendable third place, displaying skill and dedication, while learners competing in the African-piece category were crowned provincial champions at Artscape last weekend.

“For many students this will be their first visit to the vibrant city, an exciting prospect,” said Siyabonga Nobaza, finance officer at Kayamandi Primary. “However, the school is faced with the challenge of arranging funding for the trip.

“While accommodation and transport have been secured, we are reaching out to the community for assistance with providing meals and financial support during their stay.”

He believes any amount, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in ensuring the trip’s success and creating lasting memories for the talented performers.

“We are incredibly proud of our learners’ achievements, and we want to give them an unforgettable experience at the national championship. We are calling on the generosity of individuals and businesses in our community to help us make this trip a resounding success.

“Your support will not only contribute to their personal growth but will also showcase the talent and potential of our community.”

The Kayamandi Primary School delegation is scheduled to depart on Sunday 25 June and return on the 28th.
