It is a sad reality that many school going girls are unable to attend school because they cannot afford sanitary towels, to use at those crucial times when they’re needed.

So, to ensure no girl misses school to avoid an embarrassing situation arising from menstruation, the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) annually distributes sanitary towels to needy schools.

On 12 February, Makapula Secondary School in Stellenbosch received 150 packets of sanitary towels. The CWDM’s Rural and Social Development Unit will visit 34 schools and distribute 5 100 packets.
