The e’Bosch School Holiday Programme training for coordinators and facilitators concluded with the arts and crafts workshop at the Voorgelegen building in Dorp Street on Saturday 15 June, with 45 people attending the last of the four training sessions.

In total, 82 coordinators and facilitators attended all the sessions, which started on Saturday 25 May in preparation for the organisation’s annual holiday programme. The e’Bosch Heritage Project thanked all sponsors and collaborators, including StellCare, Stellenbosch School Network, Stellenbosch Academy of Sport, Markötter Sports Grounds, Hungry Lion, aQuelle, and the Jannie Mouton Foundation for their support.

The first week of the programme started on Monday 17 June, with nearly 1 100 children representing 12 dorpies at 14 programmes.

It is centred on the Olympic Games, giving the coordinators and facilitators a chance to teach and inform the children about the different cultures and ways of living in the country of their choice.

The highlights of the week included Lanquedoc’s Adventure Day on Friday 21 June, where participants headed into the mountains to learn more about their community’s history.

The group in Meerlust collected recyclables and used them to make outfits for the upcoming Olympic Showcase. The groups also practised netball and soccer for the upcoming Sports Day on Tuesday 2 July. The purpose of the sports day is to include all participating communities and have a day filled with friendly competition.

Over the next two weeks, the participants must prepare for the Olympic Showcase, which will be held at the Stellenbosch Town Hall on Saturday 6 July. Each group will have to dress and prepare food according to their chosen country, and have the opportunity to give a short display – whether in song, dance or another artistic expression – representing their “country”.
