Stellenbosch FC marked their long-awaited return to the Danie Craven Stadium in triumphant fashion last Tuesday (28 January) by securing a 2-1 victory over Kruger United in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32.
The match was Stellies’ first at their homeground in 177 days and goals by Langelihle Phili and Devin Titus saw the club record a come-from-behind win to progress to the next stage of the domestic cup competition.
The win against Kruger United set the tone for a busy week, as Steve Barker’s side took to the pitch again just four days later in the Betway Premiership, where they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sekhukhune United on Saturday (1 February).
“It was special to be back at the DC this week, on a special field and in front of our special supporters,” Barker reflected. “It had been a while since we last played in front of our home support, so it was really exciting to be back.”
Stellenbosch FC will be in action again tomorrow (Friday 7 February) when they welcome Kaizer Chiefs to Athlone Stadium for a highly-anticipated league encounter.
Tickets for the match are on sale at R70 from Webtickets and Pick n Pay outlets.
