South African singing sensation Amy Jones will perform at this year’s Franschhoek Cap Classique & Champagne Festival at the Huguenot Monument in Franschhoek this weekend (Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December).

With multiple chart topping singles, the Paarl local is on the precipice of urban pop success on a global scale. Local and national radio loved her debut single “Sunrise” (2016) as well as her follow-up hits “Burn”, “Forget the Day” (2017), “You & Me”, “Get a Little” (2018), “Dance on My Own” (2020) and her latest release, “Waiting for Me”, which came out this year.

Jones has performed with several established South African artists, including Matthew Gold, Vicky Samson, Francois van Coke, Jo Black and the GHFM United Hope Initiative, where she shared the stage with Kyle Deutsch, Dominic Neil and New Hero.

In August she travelled to the UK to perform at the Shrewsbury Flower Show, showcasing her talent more widely and taking career to new international heights.

Eikestadnuus caught up with the songbird to probe her ahead of the festival.

Tell us about your music. I like to write and perform positive, upbeat songs because I want anyone listening to feel good during and after it has played. I want the songs I sing to leave the listener happy and inspired.

What can visitors to the bubbly festival expect from your set? I will be doing some of my radio hits as well as lovely singalong covers. It will be fun and funky.

What’s on your playlist right now? Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift’s new album, Midnights

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time? Hopefully as an international artist with my music being played and enjoyed all over the world.

Who is your dream collab? Ed Sheeran.

Festival organiser Darielle Roberston is excited about having Jones perform at the upmarket event this weekend. “She is not only an enormous talent, but her music is perfect for the event which we see as an elegant, laid-back garden party,” Roberston said.

In addition to the talented Jones, guests will get to enjoy music from acclaimed DJ ShenFM and the dynamic duo Too Tone, as well as tastings by more than 20 bubbly local and international producers.

  • Tickets for the Franschhoek Cap Classique & Champagne Festival can bought at R450 per person from Webtickets. The cost includes a souvenir glass and 10 tasting coupons.
