Stellenbosch Cricket Club (SCC) recognised the outstanding achievements of its junior members during the club’s Junior Awards Ceremony held at Volkskerk hall last Friday (17 June).
The event honoured the club’s shining stars of the 2021-’21 season, although the all the club’s players were deserving winners following brilliant performances. This meant the club’s selectors had the difficult task of cherry-picking and naming the players who produced outstanding performances throughout the season.
Heinar Februarie walked away with prize for best batsman for under-17 boys, while Ilyaas Faser was crowned both best bowler and boys’ under-17 player of the season.
Amy Scott was awarded the prize for best under-19 girls’ batter, while Labeeqah Latief scooped both the best bowler and girls’ under-19 player of the season. Akum Mbira was named most improved girl player. In the under-13 girls’ team, Zozibini Mbira was the best bowler and Esinalo Ngamtini the best batter, while in the under-15 boys’ team Josh Cupido and Jaydon Layman Best won the prizes for best bowler and batsman, respectively.
The performances of Deacon Williams secured him the prizes for best under-13 batsman and most improved boys’ player, while Andrigo Frans was named best under-11 bowler, Liso Menziwa best under-11 batsman and Zalian Rampersad the most promising player.
