The Help A Girl Campaign, in partnership with Kuyasa Horizon Empowerment, hosted a career exhibition in Kayamandi on Monday 1 May.

The exhibition aimed to educate, empower and inform learners from Grades 9-12, gap-year students and community members who are unemployed about the necessary tools and information to shape their careers and ultimately achieve success.

“This year’s exhibition was different from traditional school-only events as it was also open to gap year students and community members who wish to learn the best techniques for building standout CVs, finding gap-year programmes, and learnership opportunities offered in different higher-learning institutions and training organisations as well as learning ways to save money.

A total of 20 institutions participated in the career exhibition, including companies such as Remgro, Ranyaka, Nedbank, the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), University of Stellenbosch, University of Cape Town, Cape Colleges, Northlink College, Stellenbosch Fire & Disaster Management, OVC Stellenbosch, and other institutions. The event attracted more than 150 job seekers, including learners.

“The exhibition also featured notable keynote speakers, including Dr Sigcau from the University of Western Cape, and young successful graduates from Kayamandi, such as Dr Siyamthanda Majiji, Yolanda Fani (Admitted Attorney), Tantaswa Nqaiyi (Social Worker), and Liso Ntoyakhe (Chartered Accountant),” Kwaza said.

Visitors had the opportunity to network with Work 4 a Living, NYDA, and other institutions, which made them more aware of the available opportunities around them and that they can achieve anything if they put their minds to it.

“Feedback from visitors and participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn about the different career paths available to them.

The Help A Girl Campaign hosts these events annually in Kayamandi and other communities to empower and inspire young people to reach their full potential and make them aware of the available opportunities in their own communities.”
