Kylemore United Reformed Church (URC) held its annual empowering confirmation-class camp where the youth were empowered with skills and perspectives to navigate life’s challenges through their faith.

The camp, held at the Okkie Jooste Campsite in Jonkershoek on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 March, extended beyond mere leisure. Thys Gemaak Social Development Consulting spearheaded the “Rooted in Christ” programme, which was tailored to enhance life skills, teamwork, problem-solving and individual efficacy. Wade Thys was the facilitator.

Throughout the camp, participants engaged in a series of activities designed to draw upon their existing knowledge and skills, challenging them to confront the daily hurdles life presents.

From dynamic team-building exercises to thought-provoking individual tasks, each activity was a crucible for personal growth.

Campers were encouraged to apply various methods and strategies, fostering creativity and adaptability in problem-solving scenarios. Through the hands-on experiences, they discovered the value of collaboration, resilience and faith in overcoming obstacles.

The programme is aimed at serving diverse communities, including church groups and schools, through similar camps and initiatives.

The Kylemore URC confirmation class camp is a testament to the transformative power of faith-driven education and community engagement the team say. Participants returned home equipped with newfound skills and strengthened convictions, carrying with them the tools to navigate life’s complexities with grace and resilience.
