The inaugural MaxiRace Interschools Trail Running Championships will be held at the K-Way MaxiRace Cape Winelands and presented by Banhoek Chilli Oil, Yenn Health and On Shoes, on Sunday 2 October.

The race, which will take place at the Maxi Vagabond Race Village at Hoërskool Stellenbosch as part of the annual MaxiRace Cape Winelands event, will be a 7 km route with five different running categories from which runners can choose.

The runners will be placed in either the senior (under-19) or junior (under-15) age categories, and will be able to run as a girls’ team of four; a boys’ team of four; a mixed team of four (two boys and two girls); solo girls; or solo boys.

“We strongly believe in growing the sport of trail running among the youth, especially as South Africa has a well-established history of producing some of the best trail runners in the world,” says race director Andri Stander.

“Last year we had many youngsters on our shorter routes, who all asked to please do something specifically for the school kids, so here we are!”

The MaxiRace Interschools Trail Running Championships race will start at 08:30, with registration at 07:00.
