Local magazine crowned best external publication for 2022

Local magazine Stellenbosch Visio recently scooped the award for the best magazine aimed at the public at the South African Publication Forum Awards.

Local magazine Stellenbosch Visio recently scooped the award for the best magazine aimed at the public at the South African Publication Forum Awards.

Stellenbosch Visio is “a joy to read”, according to judges at the SA Publication Forum Awards, which also awarded the magazine the prize for best external publication.

Since 2002, the awards have been acknowledging publishing excellence.

“We have the most rewarding mandate imaginable, to celebrate the people, places and good stories of our region,” said editor Francé Beyers. “Every season we get to bring our readers pages packed with inspiration, not only about good living, but also how to live better. I never fail to draw renewed energy from the creators, change makers, entrepreneurs, innovators, leaders and thinkers we feature.”

Aside from winning its category, Stellenbosch Visio also got a nod for excellence in writing and was a finalist for publication of the year.

“This publication is a true reflection of inspirational living,” said the judges. “The magazine speaks of quality, creativity and originality.”

Tip Africa Publishing, the creators of Stellenbosch Visio, received further recognition at the SA Publication Forum Awards and, interestingly, also for brands connected to Stellenbosch.

Based in the City of Oaks, though operating in three regions around the world, Mediclinic International won the award for best annual report.

Tip Africa was also responsible for Mediclinic International’s Clinical Services Report and Sustainable Development Report, joint second runners-up in this category.

Today Capitec has a gleaming head office in Stellenbosch’s Techno Park, but 20 years ago it was just an audacious idea. That story is told in Let’s Build a Bank, the first runner-up in the category for best one-off publication. This book came second for publication of the year, followed by the Mediclinic Annual Report.

Igna Schneider, editorial director at Tip Africa, described her company as a boutique publishing house with a small but incredibly dedicated team, adding she had the good fortune to work with the best creative minds. “We’re delighted to be honoured in such a range of categories and for varied clients,” she said.

“It shows compelling storytelling never goes amiss.”
