As one of its ongoing initiatives to assist the development of young learners, Shoprite is giving away gift card totalling R1 million to the class of 2023

The retailer is giving away 20 gift cards, each to the value of R50 000, to schools across the country.

Learners from Grade 1 to 12 can nominate a school and motivate why it deserves to win one of the 20 prizes on offer.

A draw will take place after Tuesday 28 February to announce the winning schools that will receive gift cards for either technology products and gadgets, sports equipment, stationery or groceries.

Advancing early childhood development (ECD) is also a core part of the Shoprite Group’s social responsibility efforts.

The retailer believes equipping young children with foundational skills paves the way toward a lifetime of learning.

The group’s support of 107 ECD centres across South Africa – through skills training for practitioners and the provision of 381 590 nutritious meals – benefited 7 151 children during the last financial year and will be continued this year.

To further assist schools, Shoprite’s Edu Card gives educational institutions an automatic discount of up to 2,5% off all essential goods, including stationery, cleaning products and more.

. Learners can nominate a school for the competition by sending “Class of 2023” to 087 240 5709 on WhatsApp and following the instructions, or enter online at shoprite.co.za/class-of-2023-competition.
