Franschhoek police are on the hunt for three men involved in a house robbery on a farm in Main Road, Franschhoek in the early hours on Saturday (31 May) in which one of the house occupants was stabbed in the leg.

The three men, armed with knives, broke into a farm cottage and accosted two guests around 01:30, said Franschhoek police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Frederick Rossouw.

According to Rossouw an adult male guest was stabbed in the leg by one of the suspects. All three suspects’ faces were reportedly covered.

“It is believed that the male victim was stabbed during a scuffle between himself and the intruders. According to the complainants they were tied up and only managed to free themselves almost an hour after the intruders left the property.

“They then managed to alert police and security,” Rossouw explained.

He said the male guest was treated for the stab wound on the scene by medical personnel.

Police also assisted him with a follow-up visit at a medical facility in Paarl the following day, Rossouw said.

Several items, mostly electronics were stolen. The keys of the male guests’ vehicle were later discovered under one of the beds.

“Police tried following the suspects’ tracks on Saturday morning. After 4-5 km we lost the spoor and had to give up the chase.

“Since the victims only managed to free themselves an our later and alert police, this gave the suspects more than enough time to disappear,” Rossouw added.

Upon closer investigation police further discovered that two other cottages on the farm were also broken into.

These cottages were, fortunately, not occupied for the weekend.

Rossouw said police responded to a robbery incident on the same property in early 2020.

He urged those in the hospitality sector to ensure that proper security measures are place to protect the safety and well-being of guests.

Franchhoek police registered a house robbery case following the incident.

All three suspects are still at large and police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
