In an extraordinary display of academic prowess, Somerset West Private School (SWPS) has once again secured a flawless 100% pass rate for the 26th consecutive year, coupled with an impressive 90% Bachelor’s pass rate in its inaugural Independent Examinations Board (IEB) exams. However, the true marvel of this academic triumph lies in the stellar achievement of Huayi Wang, who clinched a perfect 100% in Mathematics.
The graduating class of 2023 at SWPS shines brightly, showcasing six students with outstanding A averages. Notably, 13 students achieved stellar results, each surpassing the 80% mark in mathematics. The overall class performance highlights a commendable 72,1% average for mathematics and an exceptional tally of 42 subject As.
At the forefront of this academic excellence are the top achievers. Keanu Coetzer, the distinguished dux learner, secured an outstanding achievement with six As, including a remarkable 98% in mathematics, culminating in an impressive 86% average and a well-deserved reward of R20 000.
Wang, demonstrating academic prowess, concluded with an average of 85,5%, while Paige Holgate achieved an admirable 85,17%. Wang’s exceptional performance in mathematics, achieving a perfect score of 100%, earned him a significant reward of R30 000. Jordan van der Westhuizen’s exceptional 97% in mathematics also earned him a well-deserved prize of R5 000.
SWPS takes pride in its unique Post-matric Programme, offering students a chance to enhance their matric results and delve into new subjects. This year’s post-matric group showcased outstanding results, exemplified by Aiden Bekker.
He improved his mathematics from 65% to an impressive 90%, physical sciences, from 69% to 85%, and life sciences, from 63% to 80%. Alexa de Lie also excelled, raising her mathematics from 54% to 85% and achieving 80% in physical sciences, up from 56%. SWPS’s Post-matric Programme continues to be a successful avenue for academic growth and exploration, empowering students to surpass their previous achievements.
