On this significant National Women’s Day I extend my heartfelt wishes to all the incredible women in our beautiful valley.
This day is a powerful reminder of the resilience, strength and contributions of South African women throughout our history. We honour the heroines of our past who fought tirelessly for the freedoms and rights we enjoy today.
As we celebrate womanhood we recognise and appreciate the mothers, grandmothers, sisters, nieces, aunts, daughters, step-mothers, step-daughters, cousins and young girls who make our organisation and towns exceptional. Each of you plays a vital role in shaping our community, and today we celebrate you.
Our journey towards equal rights has been long and challenging, but it is a journey we remain committed to. We will continue to strive for a society in which all women are safe, protected from gender-based violence and femicide, and receive equal treatment in workplaces. Together we can create a world where every woman can thrive.
The renowned Maya Angelou once said: “Each time a woman stands up for herself she stands up for all women.”
If you are taking advantage of the long weekend, please travel safely and return to us safely on Monday morning. Let us all cherish this day and continue to support and uplift one another.
Warm regards,
Mayor Gesie
