Following a three-year hiatus, the songo.info Champions Race will return to Khayamandi next month.
Dubbed the “greatest mountain biking spectator event”, the one-day event will again see some of the world’s best mountain bike riders turn out to hone their skills and support charity. It is traditionally held the Wednesday before the start of the Absa Cape Epic.
This year sees fibertime signing on as the event’s new presenting sponsor.
The race will once again attract reigning and former world champions, Olympic medallists and aspiring stars of the sport.
MTB fans are invited to catch the action in person at the Khayamandi Sports Field, below the songo.info clubhouse, on Wednesday 13 March.
The event’s elite men’s and women’s races are by invitation only, but e-bikers can pit themselves against one another on the thrilling 2,5 km urban course for the first time. Entries are open to the public and can be purchased through Quicket for a R350 donation. The e-bike race will follow the same 20 minutes plus one-lap format of the elite men’s and women’s competitions.
The action will be held from 16:00 to 19:00, with the course practise at 16:00, the e-MTB champions race at 17:00, the women’s champions race at 17:30, the men’s champions race at 18:00 and the prize-giving at 18:30.
The event also will be broadcast live on fibertime.tv from 16:30, and the action can also be followed on the songo.info Instagram and Facebook pages. Entry for spectators is free, but a R20 donation per car for parking will be collected.
