Stellenbosch Municipality, this week, suspended a municipal traffic officer following allegations of irregular activities, maladministration or corruption levelled at the individual in question.
“We became aware of possible irregular activities of an employee through additional security systems that were installed at our Traffic Department,” municipal spokesperson Stuart Grobbelaar said. “On further internal investigation it was conclusively established the employee had in fact acted irregularly.”
He said the municipality suspended the employee with immediate effect when this came to light. “The employee resigned shortly after the suspension, and is no longer an employee of the municipality. A criminal case has also been opened with the South African Police Service, which will now launch its their own investigation into the fraudulent dealings of the ex-employee.
“Irregular activity is something that is simply not tolerated within our administration, and this week Stellenbosch Municipality has once again proven that we act decisively when allegations of irregular activities, maladministration or corruption come to light.
